Frog Lake Race

January 27th and 28th 2024

Frog Lake has been cancelled for the 2024 running due to poor snow conditions.

We got our first trail report since the weather started to warm up today and unfortunately the news is not good. While there is lots of snow, it is punchy and sloppy with rain on the way.

One of our members who ran it today reported that dogs were sinking up to their chests on part of the course with an inability to set a hook for a large portion of the run. We cannot in good conscious run a race with safety concerns like that.

Anyone with an entry will be refunded. We do still have a permit available for a fun run option on Saturday only, and may have members opt to do that, but are eyeing the forecast with skepticism.

We wanted to give as much notice as possible for people with reservations so cancellations are possible, and apologize it wasn't more time. Most of our members were locked in ice until just this past weekend, so it was hard to imagine we would not be able to run the race.

We are truly sorry everyone. We did not expect conditions to deteriorate as quickly as they did but with more rain on the way - we do not expect anything will improve.

Please take care.

For More information about the Sled Dog Demonstration + Pee Wee Dash - please see the event page here.

For more information about last year’s race, check out 2023 Frog Lake Mushers Page.

We appreciate the local snowmobile club’s partnership in grooming the trails we train on and providing spotters to ensure our racer safety on-course. We could not do it without them!

Award Recognition

This year, trophy awards will be available through third place and were made by local artist Fauna Holloway.

We will also have gear awards from Non-Stop Dogwear and purebred Team Recognition from the Siberian Husky Club of America.

Lodging Options

The closest option is Government Camp (10 minutes away), which will be limited to AirBnb & VRBO rentals as the hotels available are not advertised as being pet-friendly.

For hotel options, the Mt. Hood Resort has Pet-Friendly Rooms and the Mt. Hood Village RV Resort has both hookup spots for trailer parking as well as small vacation cottage options. Both of these options are in Welches, OR which is about a 30 minute drive from the race site but can become snarled with traffic if you leave later than 7:00AM.

Participants can also camp in the Sno-Park parking lot but there is no water or power - pit toilets are available.
