Campout Report: By Julie Curley
The campout was another success. We left home early in the morning on Friday and drove down to Elgin to talk to the people about trophies. While we ere there, they gave us a tour of the shop. What a great tour. We saw how they use the lasers to make designs. We saw how they take two rods hooked to a charger and make their smokewood designs. It was quite an operation. We met some very nice people. After that, we drove to the campsite.
We arrived about 12:15 pm at the cabin. We were the only ones there, so rather than put our tent up we took a nap. What a way to relax up on a mountain. It was warm, but there was a nice breeze. Others started to show up around 4:00 pm. The breeze turned into a cool wind at night and it blew most of the night.
Saturday when we woke up it was warm and no wind. More people showed up on Saturday. The day heated up quite nicely, ok it got hot. We passed around the sunscreen and got ready to have the meeting. Most of us being from the west side (the land of little sun) we decided to have the meeting outside in the sun. By the end of the meeting we were all moved into the cabin for the PNC meeting that went fairly quick. There were lots of stories that were told over the weekend, lots of laughs and good times for all. Saturday night we had "potluck." We had an incredible amount of food. Everyone brought something great. We had steaks, mountain baked beans, brownies, cheesecakes, angel food cake with whip cream and cherries, fruit, chips, and lots more. We talked more & more & more. Just before sunset we all piled into Tim's truck and went to the fire lookout tower. Almost everyone climbed to the top. A few of up stayed at the bottom, it was very tall. Everyone there had a great view. We could see Mt. Rainer, Mt. Adams, La Grande and the Columbia River. What a sight.
